We don’t deserve health care

We deserve nothing more than death and hell.

With all the political gerrymandering (yes this is the totally wrong word, but it was very much fun to say.)

With all of the political back and forth about rights and privileges, I am struck by how deeply people feel about what are their rights.

Some say that our basic rights are:

  • healthcare
  • free college tuition
  • inexpensive child care for working parents
  • and on and on the list could go, it all demand on who you ask.

But the problem with all of this is a deep seated failure to understand the human condition. Romans 3:9-14 says this about us:

What then? Are we Jews any better off? No, not at all. For we have already charged that all, both Jews and Greeks, are under sin, 10 as it is written:

“None is righteous, no, not one;
11     no one understands;
    no one seeks for God.
12 All have turned aside; together they have become worthless;
    no one does good,
    not even one.”
13 “Their throat is an open grave;
    they use their tongues to deceive.”
“The venom of asps is under their lips.”
14     “Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.”

We are sinners; we have broken God’s law. We deserve nothing more than death and hell.

Let’s just take one example: School choice.

I have seen a ton of people complaining about the nominee for the Education department. “She is for school choice.” Like that is a nasty little thing. But here is the rub. I personally would love to have school choice. Right now I pay close to $2000 a year for everyone else’s kids to go to public school. I homeschool. So I see none of that money for the education of my children. I actually have to save more money on top of my taxes to educate my children.

But I am not crying about it. It is simply the way the Texas law is right now. I would love to see it change, but I am not going to be some baby about it. I chose to homeschool, so I simply deal with it. How can I say that? Because I don’t deserve it. It is not a God given right for me to have school choice or a voucher. I would love it, but I have to keep it in perspective.

I am not saying you can’t lobby, petition, or vote for a change for your better; I am just saying be fair with the facts, stop crying “the sky is falling”, and move on.

You don’t deserve school choice, you don’t deserve public education, you don’t deserve health care, you don’t deserve a free cell phone, you don’t deserve anything, but death and hell.

So let’s keep the opinion slinging in perspective.
